How to reach the BEST WESTERN Hotel Villa Mabapa
Hotel Villa Mabapa is the ideal place for discover the charm
of Venice Lagoon
The BEST WESTERN Hotel Villa Mabapa is located at one end of the island of Venice Lido, at San Nicolò, location noted for the eponymous basilica built in the seventeenth century on foundations dating from 200 AD, for the sixteenth century walls of the old star-shaped fort that once fortified access to the city, and for the ancient Jewish cemetery, which is of particular historic and artistic interest.
Leaving the hotel, after a few hundred metres you reach the beach and its facilities, with a private area reserved for Villa Mabapa and from which there is access to a large light and empty area, covered by captivating natural dunes and free-growing vegetation of great natural interest.
The beach ends very close to the dike of S. Nicolò, a rampart that limited entry to the port of Venice. An interesting walk through unspoilt nature, manageable on foot or bicycle. The bicycle remains the perfect way to explore the island. The small roads that run between bridges and canals will help you explore the Art Nouveau villas around the island, or maybe the pine forests of Alberoni, or perhaps the hamlet of Malamocco, where Hugo Pratt, the famous cartoonist, lived for many years.
Not to be missed, however, is the path along the Murazzi, between the sea and the vegetable gardens and the fortifications that bear witness to every stage of history, exploring this fascinating barrier, constructed by the "Serenissima" to prevent flooding of the Lagoon and to afford protection against the flows of high tide.
Sports lovers will find, in the vicinity of the hotel, the Alberoni Golf Club with its international level 18-hole golf course, the horse riding school with its covered stables and its grassy or sandy riding rings, and the Sporting Club Ca' del Moro with its swimming pool, tennis courts and fitness centre: places of entertainment where guests of Villa Mabapa will enjoy special attention.
The hotel also has its own private landing-stage as well as a motorboat for trips to the city or Lagoon, or for excursions. After a brief ferry journey you reach the islands of San Pietro in Volta and Pellestrina, famous for their lush natural habitats, still unspoilt, and for their fish restaurants - highly popular with both locals and the best-informed tourists.
In any case Venice is always there, just ten minutes away by motorboat, maybe for an aperitif as the sun sets.
Venice Lido
Venice Lido is a long and narrow tongue of land, suspended between the sea and the lagoon, with shady avenues, parades of Art Nouveau villas, a golden beach and with St Mark's Square only a few minutes away by motorboat.
Its ten kilometres enclose a world apart where it is possible to drive but also to walk along the canals, where one can sunbathe or make bicycle trips along the embankments or on the dikes outside the town, where there is a small private airport and, at the other end, a well-looked after 10-hole golf course.
A green and peaceful place, ideal for those seeking to play sport or simply to rest, far away from the bustle of the centre yet with the city of Venice close at hand.
